I’m in. Finally got myself into animeblogger.net. Now all I have to do left is to fix up the new place which is incidentally the hardest part. It mean that I probably won’t be posting anything here until renovations are complete, and only to inform you guys about that.
It’s been a good time here in WordPress. Yes, I say it’s quite alot better than many other blog sites, but AB.net’s community is very tempting and welcoming…If not for the fact that almost everyone is getting addicted to Pangya. Not that I mind, it’s a very nice game in it’s own right.

Tj_han or Riuva fame is organising a CS session this saturday. I know most of you readers have probably already seen his notice, but just in case, I’m leaving this post here as a note and timely reminder.
For those who do not know, CS refers to the uberleet first person shooting game that revolutionized the industry years ago.
I’ll be going, sure. Those of you who want to find out my real identity are free to try find me
and stalk me…ok, no, never mind the last part. Yes, I intend to go there and do some really stupid stuff…i.e, trying to kill snipers with a handgun…Hey, it works in anime, right?
Anyway, interested parties have to sign up by leaving a comment over at riuva. Do it here.
Oh joy. It seems that the rumors that the gahmen wants to clamp down on us fansub downloaders are getting serious. It’s a good thing Odex is giving us a heads up warning first.
I suppose this sort of thing makes for high tension and dorama amongst the anime elite. Yes, it’s probably bad news to the casual anime fans. How much positive light can this bring? It certaily does not equate to more sales for Odex Pte Ltd.
First off. The impression I’m getting is that people don’t buy from odex not because they can download it off the net but because it just isn’t a good enough product on it’s own to be worth the money. Stopping people from downloading does not necessarily equate to more sales for odex. I think I really will laugh when the laws kick in, Blue Max (which sells Naruto and Full Metal Panic) experiences a spike in sales (especially cos Naruto subs are still ongoing), while Odex gets hardly any net difference in turnover. I said it before. This can only be improved by Odex itself improving the goods. You have to make people want to buy, not force them to.
Secondly. People are forgetting that there the causeway effect. Anime isn’t exclusive to Singapore. If free anime is going to be illegal here, there’s always cheap legal anime across the causeway for those who don’t mind the
much lower quality. Again, it’s a matter of attracting customers with quality over quantity, I guess. I do admit though, that the Malaysians have their advantages. Though I usually buy my anime from Odex, the Malaysians won me over with a couple of plus points. One, their unbelievably cheap prices, and two, I could buy stuff that I’m not legally allowed to in Singapore. I still don’t see how Melody of Oblivion passed the Muslim Malaysian censors as general but hit Singaporean shelves as NC16. If the Malaysians cut some parts, at least I didn’t notice. The overall effect was still good, and that was what counted.
Already two points why banning downloads will have little positive effect on Odex. Do we have a third? Sure. People forget about anime altogether. This I think is going to be pretty drastic, but I’m pretty sure that it’s the most likely path for roughly 50% or so of the anime community here. (Or worse…) Given that most anime fans are pretty young, or worse, without income, having to buy means that they would rather forget everything altogether. Very unhealthy for everyone involved, except for the gahmen who then have one less thing to regulate…
Sigh. Looks like a bumpy road ahead for all true anime fans. Bunker down people.
Personally, I think that I’ll be hit with a moderate blow. I’m not adverse to buying my anime unlike some people I know (I’m not pointing fingers, seriously.) I do buy good stuff. What I’m unhappy about is that not all the good stuff gets sold. Also new releases like the standard Bittorrent fare from TokyoToshokan and Animesuki. It means that there’s going to be a drastic reorganisation of anime blogging in Singapore. No more episode reviews… ok. No more reviews of the latest anime to hit the world? Now the horror…
Don’t worry. Take a wait and see attitude first. Perhaps they will only chase those people who
STUPIDLY download stuff that’s already on sale here. Truth be told though, people like tj_han and Tsubaki will easily survive anime downloader purges. Such is the extent of their specialisation. Me? Wait and see. I definitely won’t abandon my faithfull readers though.
Tomorrow being the first day of school is leaving my mind blank. No anime related post today.
Congratulations to Tsubaki for sorting out the mess with the troll Toshiaki and his animedeshodesho.com. Without further ado, I would like to roundly criticise Toshiaki for being such an ass and make a call for calm on all fronts of the anime community. Let’s just be glad it’s over and not do something stupid, ok?
I also figured something out. Initially, when I started this place up, I had intended for lots of colour, pictures, and stuff. Then over time I realized that I am teh phail at GFX…
So let me put this positively. Here’s the signboard of approval…
Lolz, isn’t it? Sadly, I don’t think this is going to help things much.

New Year…New anime?
Nothing much to say this New Year’s Day. Oh, there’s this. This would be the first New Year’s Day I’m celebrating here on RAR. Yes, it’s been less than a year since I started. Well, new year means new hope…I hope.
Having been disillisioned by previous years, I don’t have any resolutions for this year. I’m going to see how things turn out first. Anyway, moving out of secondary school and on to JC means alot of changes. Forget resolutions, I’m going to have my hands full adapting already.
Oh, but since I liked Impz’s anime resolutions, I think I’ll do some too:
1. Learn the ever-growing list of anime terms. E.g, tsudere, meganekko, trap…I’ve no idea what these mean. Thankfully, the AB IRC is changing that slowly.
2. Be able to figure out which shows are the ones I will never get around to watching and stop wasting time downloading shows I will never get around to watching.
3. Figure out how to write decent posts on anime. Yes, this one takes time and experience which I don’t have, but it’s worth a shot.
Well, that’s all. Have a Happy New Year, everyone…AND ENJOY IT!
I started off waking up and going straight to Funan for Urban Attic’s crazy discount sale. I think I managed to reach there just at 10.30. Just in time to learn a lesson in life and economics. SINGAPOREANS ARE DAMN CHEAPSKATE!!! The shop opens at 11.30. And I see people queing up at 10.30. Hello! The rest of Funan is barely awake, and you’re queing up…
Well, DarkMirage was there, wearing his ‘I am DarkMirage’ shirt again. So was LianYL. Anyway, Weiye told the queing people to line up (yes, they weren’t exactly queing, they were just hanging around. But then, with no other shops open yet…) and brought us out to breakfast at Burger King. After returning to the shop, we waited some more for tj_han to take a taxi all the way from Bukit Timah because his new alarm clock has no snooze button and he woke up the same time I reached UA.
At roughly 11.30 ++, the sale finally started (without tj_han) and the first batch of customers stepped in. While DM and umhiko went off to hand out leaflets (tj_han has something interesting to say about this), I stayed behind and acted as the bouncer. Yup, I was the guy standing at the door, letting people in five at a time only.
Having seen the prices go up on a couple of the figures I had initially wanted (Nooo, the Lain and Tessa went up by $20 altogether), I stopped being proactive in reserving them. Big loss. Somebody grabbed them while I wasn’t looking. Some people also snapped up the two 1/6 Chidoris by Atelier Sai. I initially wanted that too, but it was probably the limited edition sticker doing the talking. I admit the translucent parts make her look fugly.
Halfway through the sale, people like Tsubaki and tj_han came along. Somehow everyone know who I am. Okayy…Alot of time spent talking cock while customers crawled the floor in search of good deals.
Anyway, the crowd finally petered out around 1.30 or so, and I finally got the chance to buy my own figures. First off, I got the 1/6 Black Tessa by Atelier Sai (which I had to buy halfway through the sale in fear of it being snatched by someone). Of the remaining stuff on the floor, there simply wasn’t much good stuff left nor anything I particualarly wanted. In the end, I took the 1/8 Nerine by Atelier Sai, Canvas 2’s Sumire Misaki by Toy Planning and something called Tenshino Onnako by Clayz. The Nerine I got for…not exactly sure now. But the other two look like they could be decent displays. Quote tj_han: this one could be a display in the living room without people knowing it’s from an anime. Quote weiye: That’s because it’s not.
Later in the day, I went down to KKnM. I admit I’m not sure what the place sells, and whether I would be interested in anything there at all. Not to mention that coming in late on the second day of the sale meant that pretty much all the good stuff were gone, without me even knowing what was good. Found a couple of things which I eventually bought (cost me $7.90, but the expensive stuff were either figures or gone.) A letter set with nice Erementar Gerad picutures on it which I bought for Kuea-san’s sake. (I don’t think this would fall under moe, because she doesn’t fit that category.) Then something from Mamotte Shugogetten (what is the exact spelling, actually?) which looks like a bag, but doesn’t seem to work like one, having no straps to carry it with. I eventually tied it to the window grilles.
While the Nerd Horde went of for the novel experience of counting down at the meido cafe, all I did was go for a BBQ party. (It’s so fun watching things burn…) Stayed late, went home late. Walked from Downtown East to the bus interchange, which was mostly empty, given that everyone was walking in the opposite direction. Reached home at almost midnight totally shagged (probably due to that wine I drank. One finger of wine must be alot.) and went to sleep. Which is why I’m writing this the morning after…
ARRRRGGHH!!! First we get floods and monsoon rains that keep us at home. Then now earthquake in Taiwan kills the internet, leaving nothing to do at home.
I figured out the problem. Those of you Singaporeans out there reading this are most likely Starhub users. We Singnet users are still down…THAT’S IT! When I get my own computer, I’m suscribing to Starhub.
Ok, since my primary computer is down, I might not be able to do much online. Including posting here. Now that’s a bitch, especially since school starts in less than a week. I have no choice but to link out whatever I have to say…lol, outsourcing…
List of Urban Attic clearance sale items: Tsubaki, tj_han …Truthfully, I don’t have a list of my own. Maybe because I memorised all that I wanted long ago and never bothered Weiye for a copy of the list.
Weiye also promised Umehiko and I first pick off all the stuff…hmmm, I guess it not only pays to be a friendly, regular customer of his, but one who helps out with pre-sale preparations as well…
Also, Tedfox wants me to wear a sign so he can recognise me…Fine, I can do that much. Just so long as no one expects a professional looking custom T-shirt like DarkMirage has. Most likely I’ll have a piece of paper stuck to my back/bagor something.
What will it say? Let’s see…red and blue colouring at the borders for easy recognition. Words in black,…Ok, this place’s initial. R.A.R…that doesn’t sound cool enough…What if…
R.A.W.R. I’ll have to find a word for the W, but this works, doesn’t it?
